Endo and Perimenopause
As I embark on the journey of perimenopause alongside some of my friends, it’s an interesting turn of events. After fighting the good fight and overcoming the symptoms of endometriosis, I wonder what perimenopause will look like for my body. Estrogen dominance is a common symptom of endometriosis, but in perimenopause, estrogen begins to decline. Does this mean my symptoms will disappear? Will the endometriosis tissue vanish? Unfortunately, it doesn’t.
Here’s what I can anticipate. Just like with everything else, mindset is crucial. Dr. Mindy Pelz recently discussed in a webinar how incredible women are as they navigate this next phase. Yes, our hormones are fluctuating again, which can sometimes lead to uncomfortable experiences. But it’s also an opportunity for us to slow down and listen to our bodies. Our bodies may need new habits while shedding the old. This is our chance to slow down and smell the roses, tulips, lavender—all the flowers! This is often when we start to truly feel like ourselves. We’ve lived enough life to know when to sweat the small things and when to let them go, creating space for something new and beautiful.
Movement remains important to keep our joints, bones, and muscles strong. However, instead of intense HIIT workouts and running, we can embrace yoga, Pilates, and other strength-training exercises that support our changing bodies.
Here are a few things to keep in place:
· A loving support group: Women in healthy communities are healthier. Quality over quantity.
· Diverse food: Continue discovering the delicious flavors of organic fresh, whole foods at every meal.
· Clean environment: It’s always a great idea to use items with as few toxic chemicals as possible. For a free list, check out www.ewg.org
Sometimes change is hard, but it’s usually for the better. 😉
